So yesterday I went to MSR Cresson (just south of Ft. Worth) for the first time, and as expected, I had a freaking blast. The track is something like 3 miles long, but they break it up for the Apex Academy (the group running the HPDE) days, so we were on the short 1.3 configuration. This version of the track has a ton of turns, and is pretty damn challenging. I started out with the beginner run group, but by lunch my instructor had me moved up to the intermediate group. The Watts link I installed earlier in the week is phenomenal. It kept the car so planted through the curves, especially during elevation changes. I am extremely satisfied with it. I also realized I need new tires, because my current NT 555's are shot. Luckily, my instructor has a contact with an ALMS team, and he can get me their scrub slicks for 80 bucks a tire. He runs them on his Vette, and says they are good for 4 or 5 track days. So I think I am going to pull the trigger on finally getting some track wheels, since it'll be cheaper than buying something like NT-01's for my current rims. I have to make sure a 305 wide tire will fit up front on the Mustang though. He said he had run the tires on a friends Mustang, so we will see. So finally, here are some pictures, and when the GoPro videos are uploaded to Youtube I will edit the post with them.

Sweet picture of part of my finger here.

O hey my finger is back again. This is what happens when you aren't used to taking pictures with your phone yet.

Pretty dirty but ready to race. The night before I switched on some Hawk HP+ track pads, and they were fantastic (they were new to me).

Here is a GT3 RS that has a Dubai-level ridiculous chrome wrap. I still want it though.

Kinja'd!!!

This is my instructor's Miata racer. That is a Porsche cup wing on the back.

Kinja'd!!!

Here is a Shelby Daytona clone. It sounded excellent.

I saw this GT3 on the way to the track. I figured he was going the same place I was going.

Kinja'd!!!

New and old, and I want them both.

Kinja'd!!!

This Vehicross was the pace car for the track. No joke. Also, my finger again.

Kinja'd!!!

This was me trying to get a decent picture of the member owned 458 that was tearing up the 1.7 track (where the members were running that day). It sounded glorious.

Here is some video. My GoPro wasn't charged all the way so it kept dying during my sessions.

This is the last run with the beginner group before I got bumped up.

A run with the intermediate group.

My last run.

I haven't been to MSR Cresson in years, but that is indeed a very fun track. If you have an chance to go back for an event on the full 3.1, it's a hoot.

How was the Apex Academy program? I've been dragging my feet for years on finally getting out there, but I'm out of excuses and I'm looking to do an HPDE this spring.

I probably am not the best person to ask because I didn't need much instruction, just really someone to show me the line, but from what I gathered from talking and watching the beginner group guys, they learned a ton and had a blast. Also, for 185 its a pretty good price and since MSR Cresson is a members only track (so no open track days) you either have to be a member or take Apex to race there. Also, they needed more instructors so my guy was actually from Eagles Canyon Raceway, but was still a pro driver so he still helped me out (obviously).

Apparently they only open up the full track for members days and they will invite some of the advanced guys, so I need to keep going back and buddying up with some of the regulars if I want a chance haha.

hmmm, they used to let track day organizers (apex, drivers edge, etc) do the 3.1. It costs more to rent the whole thing, so the car counts have to be a little higher or the event has to cost more.

well, whatever it takes, try to get on the 3.1

Yea I had asked about it and the guy said that they only do it for members now. Maybe that will change though because I would love to do the whole thing.

Nice! I did the 1.7 with The Driver's Edge last year.

Really want to get out there for the 3.1 sometime...

Great videos. I need to get mine uploaded from TGPR last weekend, as well as buying new batteries for the GoPro.

And I need to get that done before going to Barber next month.
